Changing Your Name on Your Passport
To change your name on your passport, you will need to complete a
passport application form (available from the post office). As this is treated
as a passport application, you will have to pay the standard price for a new
passport (£72 for a standard three week service).
You can request for your original documents (marriage certificate or deed poll)
to be returned to you by special delivery at an additional cost.
Changing your passport before you get married
If you want to travel on honeymoon under your new name, you can change your
passport up to three months before you get married – although you won’t be able
to use it until your wedding day. As your previous passport will be cancelled,
you won’t be able to travel abroad until your wedding day. Your new passport
will be credited with extra time (up to a maximum of nine month) should you have
any unexpired time on your old passport.
If you wish to change your passport before you get married, you will need to
complete form PD2. A leaflet (PD1) explains what you need to do. Both the PD1
and PD2 can be obtained from:
- The Post Office
-
Direct Gov website
- The Passport advice line (call 0870 521 0410 to request them to be
sent to you)
The form PD2 will need to be signed by the person who will be conducting your
marriage.
