Type of Wedding Gift List
There are two main types of gift list – actual purchase and money contribution.
- Actual purchase – gifts are bought directly from a store either in person, online or over the telephone. Examples include Debenhams, John Lewis, Heals and Argos.
- Money contribution – contributions are collected from guests by the gift list provider who will transfer one lump sum into your bank account on a pre-determined date to use as you wish. This type of list is perfect if you want to buy something large such as a honeymoon, bathroom or garden makeover. Some online sites will allow guests to buy you a gift from your list when in actual fact they are collecting the money for you to buy after your wedding day. Whist offering greater flexibility – there are often charges associated with the service such as an administration fee for setting up the list or a service fee to cover processing costs (sometimes called credit card transaction costs). These fees are usually deducted from the total funds collected before they are transferred to your bank account.
Wedding gift list portals are websites which allow you the flexibility to put a variety of gifts on your list. When guests ‘click to buy’ they are directed to the relevant online store where they can purchase your gift directly. The wedding gift list website will then update the list to show that the item has been bought.
