Best Man's Speech
Most wedding guests regard the infamous best man's speech as the highlight of the meal - some even put a sweepstake on how long it will be. With this amount of pressure - it's no wonder that even the most confident of best men can be left quaking in their shoes.
Don't be afraid. Everyone appreciates how nerve-wracking it can be - so everyone will be rooting for you. After a few glasses of wine and champagne - they'll also laugh at pretty much anything you say!
When writing your speech - try to consider your audience. Find out more about the audience to ensure you appeal to a range of ages and don't cause any offence or embarrassment.
The best man's speech was originally an opportunity to say nice things about the groom. These days it tends to be more jokey and light-hearted and a great opportunity to embarrass the groom. Go easy on him though - if you're not sure about material - reverse roles and think how you'd react to the speech if you were the groom. Past relationships are a definite no no!

key things to include in the best man's speech
- On behalf of the bridesmaids - thank the groom for his toast
- Say a few brief words about the bride and groom as a couple - how good they are with each other and how good they look today
- Read out any messages from people unable to attend the wedding
- Talk about the groom. Officially this is the chance to say nice things about the groom; realistically - this is when the best man chooses to tell funny stories about the groom. You could start or finish this section by complimenting the groom in some way.
- Toast the bride and groom in their new life together.
