Wedding Theme Ideas
If you’re looking for ideas or an unusual wedding theme and don’t know where to start - have a look at some of our ideas below.
- Colours are the most obvious form of wedding theme. Once you’ve chosen your colours - they can be applied to stationery, bridesmaid dresses, suits, table decorations, favours and even the wedding cake.
- Flowers are another popular choice if you have a particular favourite flower that will be in your wedding flowers. Subtle references to this flower can be introduced on wedding stationery. On the wedding day, the flowers themselves can provide the main focal point on each table.
- Butterflies are an easy theme to follow and are common on readymade stationery, name cards and table decorations. You could even name each table after a different kind of butterfly.
- Stars are a good theme if you’re looking for a magical theme. Mix your star theme with a midnight blue for a twilight effect. Fairy lights and coloured drapes are a great way of enhancing this theme. If you’re into your astronomy, you could even name each table after a different constellation.
- Hearts are an obvious choice for a wedding theme - there is no shortage of readymade wedding accessories and stationery. Love Heart sweets are a great idea if you fancy a bit of fun and have a sweet tooth - you can choose from a range of Love Heart stationery and have personalised Love Heart sweets as your favours. Visit Love Heart for more ideas.
If you’re looking for something a bit different, why not choose a wedding theme with a bit more wow. Here are just a few wedding theme ideas to help you:
- Seaside themes are a great choice if you love the sea. Shells and sand can be used to make great table decorations and centre pieces, write your guests’ names on pebbles to use as place cards and have personalised sticks of rock as favours. Take a picture of your favourite beaches and name each table after them. If you really want to splash out - why not hire an old fashioned ice cream cart or candy floss stall for your reception. Fish & chips are a great choice for the wedding breakfast or evening buffet whilst you dance along to a Beach Boys tribute band.
- Caribbean/Tropical themes are a good idea if you’re got engaged in, or are going on honeymoon to the Caribbean. The use of bright Caribbean colours, steel band music and limbo dancing are a great way of adding some fun to your wedding. More suited to informal weddings - you may choose to be less formal with your dress. The groom may choose to wear a linen suit and Hawaiian shirt whilst the bride might wear something summery and flirty. Loose tumbling curls are the perfect wedding hairstyle. Opt for a BBQ or traditional Caribbean food. Friday Island in the Cotswolds is a great venue if you’ve always wanted a Caribbean wedding but want all your friends and family to be there.
- Las Vegas is a great theme if you want all the glitz and glamour. Name your tables after Las Vegas hotels, ask your guests to come in black tie and turn your evening reception into a fun casino by hiring blackjack, roulette and poker tables complete with croupier. As for your first dance - it’ll have to be an Elvis classic.
- Oriental style wedding themes can be as elaborate as you like. Choose red, black and gold as the colour background, orchids and bonsai trees as flower and table pieces, fans as place names or favours and Chinese lanterns as the decorations. For entertainment why not have a Chinese dragon in the afternoon and karaoke in the evening. You could even both wear a kimono.
- Fairytale or Cinderella weddings are great if you want to turn your dream into reality. A traditional ball gown with a full skirt will probably be your perfect dress and you’ll want to travel to the wedding in a horse and cart. For your first dance, why not waltz to a Disney classic. A fairytale castle cake and lots of sparkle throughout will help to create a magical atmosphere.
- Moroccan/Arabian nights are a great theme especially if you’ve hired a bedouin tent as the marquee. Multi-coloured jewelled fabrics, soft cushions and Moroccan food are something you wouldn’t expect to see at a wedding. As for entertainment - why not hire a belly dancer or belly dance yourselves for the first dance.
- Spanish/Flamenco. If you’re of Spanish descent or you’ve found a flamenco style dress, you might want to build your wedding theme around it. Choose a Spanish guitar and Latin/salsa band for entertainment, drink Rjoja and eat tapas and paella.
- The 1920’s are a great idea if your venue is Art deco. The bride and bridesmaids can wear drop waist or flapper dresses with a feather boa whilst men can wear pin stripe suits to dress like mobsters. Cocktails and jazz music provide the perfect backdrop. Choose an Ella Fitzgerald or Irving Berlin tune for your first dance.
- Pirates are a fun idea for a wedding theme especially if you ask all your guests to dress up too. Serve reception drinks in silver tankards and have a message in a bottle as place names. Why not drape a skull & cross bones across the tables.
