Wedding Vows Examples

Many couples choose to personalise their vows by saying additional promises that express their feelings towards one another. These promises are made during the exchanging of rings.

Whether you choose heartfelt words or want to inject some humour - you should discuss your ideas/choice of words with your registrar to make sure they are happy for them to be included in your ceremony. Some registrars are more traditional than others and may not allow much room for freedom. If this is the case - you can always ask to have another registrar appointed although this may be subject to availability.

words and ideas

Finding the right words for your wedding promises requires careful thought and consideration. The best place to start is by writing down the following:

  • How you make each other feel and what you mean to each other
  • What is the greatest thing about them
  • Why do you love them
  • The moment when you realised you were in love
  • Memories of your life together so far
  • What you look forward to in your future together

Once you've summarised your feelings for one another, try and put them together in a couple of short and succinct sentences. If you're struggling for ideas and want to keep it simple, have a look at our words below. Choose a combination or mix them up to create the perfect wedding promise.

nofreetime tips

  • Keep them short
  • Don't make it too soppy or intimate - you don't want to embarrass your guests
  • Practise your vows in advance
  • If you choose to memorise your vows- make sure your registrar has a copy of them on the day just in case you forget your lines
  • If you want to add some humour - keep it subtle.
