Role of Master of Ceremonies

In the absence of a toastmaster/master of ceremonies or in house wedding co-ordinator, the best man may be asked to undertake the role of master of ceremonies.

The role involves making announcements throughout the day, rounding people up where necessary and ensuring things run smoothly and to schedule. If you are to assume the role of master of ceremonies, you’ll need to make the following key announcements:

  • Please be seated for the meal
  • When all the guests are seated – ask the guests to be upstanding for the new ‘Mr & Mrs xxx’ as the bride & groom walk in
  • Introduce the speeches
  • Cake cutting
  • First dance
  • Departure of the bride & groom
