Wedding Day Duties
Collect buttonholes for groom, ushers and best man if they are not being delivered direct to the venue.
Get to the groom at least two hours before the wedding to make sure he’s up, help him get ready to look his best and most importantly settle those nerves.
Drive the groom to the venue (not forgetting luggage or bags if required) to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before the wedding.
Check that everyone has their buttonholes and that the orders of service (if applicable) have arrived.
Walk down the aisle with the groom no later than five minutes before the wedding is due to start and be standing or seated on the right of the groom on the right hand side of the aisle.
Everyone will stand as the bride arrives and the best man should continue to stand until he is asked to be seated. At this point you should ensure you have the rings ready when you are prompted.
The best man may be expected to act as a witness and sign the register.
If it is a church wedding, the whole wedding party will go to the vestry for the signing of the register – the best man escorts the chief bridesmaid on his left arm.
After the ceremony the best man should escort the chief bridesmaid on his left arm down the aisle behind the bridesmaids.
The best man and ushers will then usually be expected to help gather the guests for the reception drinks and photos.
If the reception is at a different venue, the best man will leave with the bridesmaids after the bride & groom before the rest of the guests so that he is there to greet guests at the reception as they arrive.
Check with the bride’s father and the venue as to whether any greeting messages have been left for the bride & groom.
Join the receiving line to greet the guests as they are seated for the wedding breakfast. Click here for

.
The best man may be expected to introduce both the father of the bride and the groom for their wedding speeches.
Dance with the chief bridesmaid following the first dance.
Ensure the bride & groom make a smooth exit at the end of the evening, together with their luggage, travel documents, currency etc.
