What to Wear

It is common for the key men (groom, best man, ushers, father of the bride and groom’s father) to wear matching or coordinating outfits.

Speak to your daughter and find out what they would like you to wear. If they have no expectations or preferences, wear a suit that coordinates with the mother of the bride. It may seem trivial, but if your outfit doesn’t ‘match the colour scheme’ - you could have one very unhappy bride. Remember - after the bride & groom – the mother and father of the bride are second in the spot light, so your daughter will want you to look your best.

If you’re hiring a suit, you’ll need to get measured two months before the wedding. If this is being organised by the groom or best man, they should advise you when and where you need to go for this.

If you collect your own suit before the wedding day, try the suit on before you take it home to check it’s complete and the right size. You don’t want to leave it till the morning to find that the trousers are too short!

It is customary for the groomsmen and key male guests to wear buttonholes. These should be worn on your left lapel (positioned upright through the button hole and fixed in place with a pin behind the lapel). Your buttonhole will probably be delivered with the bride’s bouquet but you’d be wise to check in advance as the rest of the buttonholes will be delivered to the church.
