Types of Wedding Bouquet
Your body shape, style of dress and wedding theme will have a big influence on your choice of wedding bouquet.
There are four main types of wedding bouquet - cascade/trailing, hand-held, posy and over-arm.
- Shower/cascade or trailing - an elegant & trailing arrangement of flowers held together by a handle (usually wired together). This style of wedding bouquet is lengthened by trailing foliage such as grass or ivy. This type of bouquet can be full or simple.
- Looks good with - traditional full gowns or the taller bride. Trailing bouquets draw attention to the area below the waist.
- Suggested flower ideas - orchids, arum or oriental lilies are popular with this style of wedding bouquet.
- Hand-held - a natural looking bouquet tied together with ribbon. This style of wedding bouquet is the easiest to make if you decide to make your own wedding flower arrangements.
- Looks good with - any dress. Perfect for country style weddings.
- Suggested flower ideas - opt for a mixture of flowers and textures. Roses, tulips, narcissi, lisianthus, sweet pea and freesias are commonly mixed in hand-held bouquets.
- Posy - a subtle gathering of flowers usually popular with bridesmaids and flower girls. Smaller than hand-held wedding bouquets.
- Looks good with - empire line gowns. Posies are understated - allowing greater focus on the bride.
- Suggested flower ideas - small headed flowers such as carnations, alstroemeria, sweet peas, roses, and mini gerberas.
- Over-arm - a modern style wedding bouquet made up of long stemmed flowers tied together with ribbon. These need to rest over the arm, so can be awkward to hold.
- Looks good with - modern contemporary slim dresses as the bouquet draws attention to the area above the waist.
- Suggested flower ideas - arum lilies, roses, tulips, gerberas and delphiniums.
