The Bridal Outfit
Every bride wants to look amazing on her special day – but there’s a lot to think about.
Wedding dress
Your wedding dress will probably be one of the first things you start looking for (if you haven’t already!). This is probably a good thing given that most dresses take 4-6 months to be delivered.
Trying on dresses can be very exciting. It can also be quite stressful if you try on a dozen or so dresses and feel that none of them are for you. We’ve put together the following wedding dress tips:
- Start looking for a dress as soon as you can.
- Put together a scrapbook of wedding dress pictures and styles that you like. Take this with you when you go dress shopping to showcase the styles of wedding dress that appeal to you.
- Visit lots of different shops with different styles. Most wedding dress shops will expect you to make an appointment in advance.
- Don’t feel pressurised into buying a dress. Lots of dresses will look good on you but if you don’t feel amazing – keep looking. Believe me - you’ll know when you’ve found your perfect dress.
- Keep an open mind. Don’t disregard a wedding dress just because you have your heart set on a certain style. Many brides set their hearts on a particular style, find it doesn’t suit them and then fall in love with something completely different.
Accessories
How you choose to accessorise will depend on your chosen style of wedding dress, hairstyle, wedding theme, level of simplicity and budget. Typical bridal accessories include:
- Veil
- Shoes
- Tiara
- Hair decorations such as flowers, clips, feathers
- Jewellery
- Clutch purse
- Wrap or shrug
- Lingerie
- Garter
Hair and make-up
Bridal hair and make-up are an important consideration. You need to choose a wedding hairstyle that will hold and make-up that will ensure you look your best for the wedding photos and last all day. Take a look at our wedding hair and make-up guides for more help and advice.
Health and beauty routine
If you haven’t already got an existing beauty routine, it’s worth getting into one no later than 3-6 months before the wedding. A facial once a month will help your skin to look fresh and radiant – a must for those precious wedding photos. Your last facial should be no later than two weeks before the big day.
Get into the habit of drinking lots of water throughout the day to help refresh your skin and eliminate any excess bloat. 1 ½ - 2 litres of water is ideal.
Be realistic. It’s a known fact that lots of brides want to lose weight for their wedding. Planning a wedding is stressful enough without the added pressure of trying to lose weight. If you set yourself an unrealistic target - you risk making yourself ill. Most wedding dresses are design to flatter your body shape and shave inches off your body.
