Mother of the groom
There are no rules as to what the mother of the groom should wear. However, you should consider the colour scheme, what colour the bridesmaids are wearing and what colour the mother of the bride is wearing. Ensure you check these details before you start shopping.
Why not ask your future daughter-in-law to come along and help choose your outfit. You're guaranteed to get an honest opinion and can be sure your outfit won't clash with anyone else in the wedding party. Is she works full time, her weekends may be booked up with wedding planning so bear this in mind.
Whilst you will want to look great on the wedding day, the second most glamorous lady is supposed to be the mother of the bride - so try not to outdo her.
Father of the groom
The groom and his groomsmen (best man, ushers and father of the bride and groom) traditionally wear matching or coordinating outfits that are usually hired for the event. Alternatively, you may be asked to wear your own suit with coordinating colours. Another option would be to coordinate your colours with the mother of the groom's outfit. Make sure you find out what the bride & groom would like you to wear. It may seem trivial but you could have one unhappy bride if your wedding attire doesn't 'match the colour scheme'.
If the suits are to be hired, measurements will need to be taken approximately two months before the wedding. The best man will usually organise the fittings and let you know where and when you need to get fitted. You can often get measured at your nearest store (if hiring from a concession).
The suits are often collected and returned by the best man. If you have to collect your own suit - try it on in the shop to make sure the suit fits and is complete. It could be too late if you don't check until you get home or on the day itself.
Buttonholes are small flowers worn by the groomsmen and any key male guests. The flowers should be positioned upright through the button hole on the left lapel and fixed in place with a pin through the back of the lapel. If these are provided, the ushers are usually responsible for handing them out.
